Spark plugs ignite the mixture of petrol/autogas (LPG) and air produced by the carburettor or injection system. The resulting explosion pressure is the basis for starting the engine. Autogas (LPG) has an ignition temperature of ~500°C, petrol only ~350°C. Therefore a higher energy is needed for the ignition of the gas mixture than with a pure gasoline mixture. In order to avoid stressing the ignition coil of conventional spark plugs and to prevent premature ignition coil failure, the use of special “LPG spark plugs” is recommended.
